Requiem @ Sacrum Profanum 2023

When I listen to Verdi's Requiem, performed by the NBC Symphony Orchestra conducted by Toscanini, I hear the passage of time and physical degradation. I have a similar listening experience with other records; five decades after the release of Ligeti's Requiem, the Bavarian Radio Choir sounds from the afterlife.This is my backyard, where the sound of Requiem comes from: from cassette tapes generating noise, from crackling vinyl records devoid of dynamic details of composition played on budget audio equipment. On this album, I return to the times when, as a listener without deep listening skills, I was unaware of what to pay attention to when listening to music. At that time, the quality of the recording, the entire technical aspect, gave way to emotions, feelings and overall experience.I hope you will have a similar experience as I had in the past.

For the generation born before World War II everyday objects fulfilled more often than not a purely decorative function. To avoid damage they were not touched, unless a sublime occasion – such as a Catholic holiday or a milestone anniversary – sanctified their use. I remember that in my grandmother’s lifetime her treasured glass items remained inaccessible to the household members, thus missing the purpose they were created for. Only after her death did the collection of glass tableware, carefully stored for five decades, fall into my (irresponsible) hands.

An electronic reimagination of Debussy's La Mer (the Sea).Claude Debussy’s earliest marine memories go back to his childhood; he was eight years old when in 1870 his mother took him on a trip to Cannes. Breathtaking views of the Cote d’Azure remained in the composer’s memory for many years and finally took a tangible shape in the form of musical notation.I was at a similar age when I saw the sea for the first time. Never before did my eyes reach that far as they did then, in the late 1980s, while I was gazing at the stormy, seemingly endless Baltic.Two decades afterwards I listened to „The Sea” for the first time. It was the recording of the New Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Pierre Boulez. In the „La Mer” album I directly refer to the Claude Debussy’s composition.

La Mer Live at Katowice JazzArt Festival

PAINTINGS

I paint in the convention of abstract expressionism. In my works I use oil and acrylic paints, with the use of tools such as putties or brushes. I love masking tapes, foils or objects creating interesting structures on the canvas. I use both techniques related to abstract expressionism - color field painting and action painting.My abstract paintings fit into spaces such as living rooms, offices, hotels, institutions.PAINTING PORTFOLIO

PROGRAM LA MER

La Mer Live jest rozwinięciem autorskiego nagrania inspirowanego trzema szkicami symfonicznymi Claude’a Debussy’ego. Morze prawdziwe objawia się pod postacią nadmorskiej audiosfery utrwalonej cyfrowo w nagraniach terenowych zarejestrowanych wczesną jesienią na plaży w Brzeźnie, Gdańsk, 2019 r. Morze wyobrażone stanowi sfera dźwięków abstrakcyjnych, ambientowych, współczesnych, klasyfikowanych (ze względu na twórcze podejście) do gatunku muzyki eksperymentalnej.Narracja występu przebiega w swobodny, otwarty na eksperyment oraz improwizację sposób. La Mer w wersji live w opiera się na opracowanym (wydanym) wcześniej autorskim materiale, jednak występ należy traktować jako rozwinięcie kompozycji niż odtwórcze jej wykonanie. Koncert realizowany jest przy użyciu instrumentów elektronicznych, wirtualnych oraz zanurzonego w wodzie hydrofonu, tworzących razem zaskakujące kolaże dźwiękowe dodatkowo przetworzone za pomocą elektronicznych efektów.

PROGRAM MUSIC FOR GLASS

Program Music for Glass ma na celu ukazanie drugiego życia przedmiotów (w tym przypadku będzie to wybór szkła stołowego z kolekcji z moich dziadków), w zupełnie nowym kontekście, nieprzewidzianym przez producenta czy właściciela. Podczas czterdziestominutowego występu na żywo planuję zagrać na szkle. Wydobywające się ze szkła dźwięki zostaną uchwycone przez mikrofony, a następnie w odpowiedni sposób przetworzone w ambientowo-eksperymentalne struktury.Oczekiwanym rezultatem występu będzie refleksja publiczności na temat przedmiotów w szczególnie roli jaką mogą odgrywać współcześnie poprzez nadanie im nowych funkcji; również w kontekście konsumpcjonizmu i zastępowania przedmiotów nowymi, o wątpliwej jakości wykonania.

Never before did my eyes reach that far as they did then, in the late 1980s, while I was gazing at the stormy, seemingly endless Baltic.Two decades afterwards I listened to „The Sea” for the first time. It was the recording of the New Philharmonic Orchestra under the baton of Pierre Boulez. In the „La Mer” album I directly refer to the Claude Debussy’s composition.Like Debussy I used my imagination and early recollections to describe the sea as I had seen it as a child. My inspiration by the work of the French composer, however, is limited – I took the liberty of using original titles, but as instruments employed a synthesizer, recorder, theremin and an electric guitar to create my own musical narrative of the sea.

Music for Sci-fi Movies wydany dwukrotnie otrzymał tytuł jednego z albumów roku 2021. Nagranie MFSFM zostało wyróżnione w muzycznych podsumowaniach Bartka Chacińskiego z Polifonii oraz Krzysztofa Dziuby z radiowej Dwójki.

Występ na tarasie opuszczonego domu

W ostatnie ciepłe dni sierpnia eksplorowaliśmy taras opuszczonego domu. Miejsce na tyle nas ujęło, że postanowiliśmy zarejestrować elektroakustyczny live set. Część pierwsza i druga do obejrzenia na kanale YouTube.

Kolektyw dźwiękowy SZSZRZ

Wraz z Tomaszem Pizio i Łukaszem Słuchym jako kolektyw SZSZRZ wydaliśmy kasetę z nagraniami terenowymi. Tematem wspólnej pracy dźwiękowej są drzewa, a dokładnie skrzypienie drzew. Materiał do posłuchania na naszym bandcampie.
